Editing Services

Cold Read with Light Edits

This service allows for a book editor to be matched based on the genre or subject matter. The entire manuscript is read, allowing the book editor to catch remaining and/or recurring errors and mistakes previously missed. This level of editing is oftentimes selected without the benefit of an editorial appraisal service. Should an editor begin a cold read and find that it is not sufficient, the author will be contacted and given the option to move to an editorial appraisal, an editing service of their choosing, or cancel the cold read to make their own corrections prior to next steps. A $50 cancellation fee will be retained.

PRICE: $0.021/word

Level 1 Copyedit

This level is appropriate to check over spelling, grammar, and punctuation. This is an excellent service to catch recurring mistakes authors make consistently, common misspellings, and punctuation mistakes.

PRICE: $0.025/word

Level 2 In-depth Line Editing

Higher level mistakes like tense, syntax, and basic sentence construction require a more in-depth editorial process. This level is appropriate to check over spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Level 3 Developmental Editing

In cases where developmental issues have been identified, a deeper editing process is necessary to improving how the information or story is communicated to the reader. In addition to editing more complex developmental issues, a subsequent pass is completed to include all mechanical and in-depth editorial corrections as part of a Level 1 and Level 2 edit.

PRICE: $0.034-$0.075/word

Developmental Editing Package

Sometimes an author needs intensive help with their manuscript. This developmental editing package includes extensive help rewriting and correcting the entire manuscript. Because the amount of work can vary widely, the pricing for this is dependent on an appraisal service or an editor’s consultation.

Children’s Picture Book Editing

Like the publishing standards to consider for a fiction or nonfiction product, there are important children’s book standards too. One of the most overlooked ingredients in a children’s book are vocabulary and sentence structure. Editors will review and edit for age-appropriate vocabulary and language, as well as sentence structure, tense, tone, and continuity.

Index Preparation by Software*

If an index is appropriate for your book, several indexing options are available to choose from. One of the most common indexing options is a software-based term search to identify the proper nouns in the book. The authors will generate an exceptions list of items not to be indexed. The desired index will be designed and added to the book’s interior file.

PRICE: $75.00

Index Preparation (simple)*

An editor will be selected based on the genre and subject matter of the book. They’ll read the work and generate an index based on the book’s content and goals.

Index Preparation (complex)*

Multi-level indexes for complex works require additional time. An editor will be selected based on the genre and subject matter of the book. They’ll read the work and generate an index based on the book’s content and goals.

Book Cover Editing

Though your book cover makes the first impression, it’s the back of the book description and related text that must make a successful impression to seal the sale the first time your book is found. Your book’s cover text should be given the same care and attention before its design—just like your manuscript should be—before it’s designed into an engaging interior. The editor will make editorial corrections and suggestions for the author to consider. As always, the final wording and text will be up to the author.

If you’re considering the added expense of publishing your book as a hardcover book with a dust jacket, you should recognize that you have even more room for error with the text that you write for it. Authors should have websites to support their book and their professional platform. One of the best ways to increase your credibility and stock for your audiences and readers is effective content on your site. Unlike texting and even emails, where the occasional typographical error is apt to be overlooked—“it’s just a text/email, anyway”—how you present information and content on your website directly reinforces your professional credibility … or damages it. Redbrush offers Website Content Editing at a competitive rate to help you keep your best foot and image forward.

Ghostwriting

Not everyone has the time, skill, or patience to turn their ideas into a manuscript. Redbrush can help you move your ideas and words into manuscript form with the help of a ghostwriter. After gathering information from the author, we’ll be sure to match you with someone based on your genre, subject matter, and goals for the project. Ghostwriting is a time- and labor-intensive process that requires a substantial investment by the author.
